Murder of police sergeant and wife in Huancayo
On February 5, 1987, PCP-SL militants assassinated a police sergeant and his wife in Huancayo, as part of a campaign of "selective annihilations" against members of the police forces that intensified since the beginning of that year.
On February 5, 1987, a contingent of the PCP-SL (Shining Path) carried out an armed attack against a police sergeant and his wife in the city of Huancayo. This assassination was part of a series of "selective annihilations" that had increased since January 1987, when on the 14th of that month they had assassinated an Army commander in the same city. The attacks continued on March 6 with the assassination of a police major on a downtown street. These selective assassinations of law enforcement officers and public officials intensified during 1987 as part of the Shining Path strategy in the Mantaro valley.
