Murder of Mayor Eugenio Camasca

The mayor of Naranjillo, Eugenio Camasca of the PAP, was assassinated by the Shining Path PCP in February 1987. This crime occurred as part of the subversive strategy to eliminate local authorities and establish territorial control in the Upper Huallaga area.

In February 1987, the mayor of the district of Naranjillo, Eugenio Camasca, a militant of the Peruvian Aprista Party (PAP), was assassinated by the Shining Path PCP. This assassination occurred in the context of the control that the PCP-SL was establishing in the area of Naranjillo, near Tingo Maria, where the subversive organization had gained space, intimidated and assassinated authorities, and established a Popular Committee. The assassination of Camasca was part of the PCP-SL's strategy to eliminate local authorities to consolidate its power in the Alto Huallaga region.
