In January 1987, the commanders of the East Zonal Committee of the PCP-SL coordinated the assault on the Nylon Factory. This zonal committee was considered of great importance for concentrating the proletariat in Ate Vitarte and for establishing the 'Shining Trench of Combat' of the Canto Grande prison. The assault was part of the Shining Path strategy of infiltration in unions and factories in the East Zone of Lima. The Nylon Factory was among the unions infiltrated by the PCP-SL in 1989, together with other companies such as FAM, Atlas, COPE, Tabacalera Nacional, Bata, Tejidos La Unión and Pelikán.
