Detention, torture and rape at DINCOTE

A woman detained in DINCOTE in 1987 was the victim of rape during her detention and became pregnant. She was later transferred to the Canto Grande Prison where her pregnancy was confirmed as a result of the rape.

A female witness was detained at DINCOTE in 1987 and later transferred to the Canto Grande prison. During her detention she was the victim of rape. Approximately two months after her detention, she began to feel nausea and discomfort, which she initially attributed to liver problems. After undergoing medical examinations at the Lince clinic, it was confirmed that she was pregnant as a result of the rape suffered during her detention at DINCOTE. The testimonial relates that she had menstruated during her stay at DINCOTE, so she did not initially consider pregnancy possible. This case illustrates how rape was used as a form of torture during detention, and the serious physical and psychological consequences faced by the victims, including forced pregnancy.
