Additional situations of sexual violence in San José de Secce

In 1987 in San José de Secce, Ayacucho, a woman was raped by military personnel who frequented her business, resulting in an unrecognized pregnancy. The witness reported two additional instances of sexual violence in the same locality that year.

A witness started a business selling beer and soda at her home in San José de Secce to meet her needs. One day, around 3:00 in the afternoon, soldiers arrived to drink beer as usual. The witness was the victim of rape and became pregnant as a result. The perpetrator of the rape acknowledged his responsibility but pointed out that the woman "could not get pregnant just because of a single sexual act". A lieutenant promised her that "any of the chiefs would pick up the child", but to date, the child resulting from the rape has not been recognized. The same witness reports two additional situations of sexual violence in her town in 1987, mentioning that "there was an investigating policeman who went around like crazy looking for women".
