First targeted assassinations of authorities in colonist communities

In 1987, PCP-SL initiated the first selective assassinations of authorities in Satipo's colonist communities, marking the beginning of a strategy of terror that would lead the subversive group to control a large part of the province by 1990.

In 1987, the PCP-SL (Shining Path) committed the first selective assassinations of authorities in the colonist communities of Satipo province. These assassinations marked the beginning of a systematic strategy of terror that the PCP-SL would implement in the region during the following years. The selective assassinations were part of a broader strategy that included attacks, looting and kidnappings of children and young people, generating the massive displacement of many native and settler communities to the cities. This selective violence against local authorities was the prelude to the territorial control that PCP-SL would exercise over a large part of the province of Satipo between 1987 and 1990.
