Looting in hamlets in the southeast of the plateau
In late 1987, small and remote hamlets in the southeastern part of the Junín plateau were victims of looting of food, horses and forced recruitment by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. These attacks were part of the Shining Path's strategy of exacerbating local conflicts to gain territorial control.
In the last months of 1987, the smaller and more remote hamlets, located southeast of the plateau in the area of the Cahuide SAIS in Junín, began to be victims of looting perpetrated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. The looting included food and horses, as well as forced recruitment of villagers. These attacks were part of the PCP-SL's strategy of taking advantage of existing conflicts between communities to enter them, gain allies and exacerbate confrontations between villagers. This period corresponds to the stage of systematic attacks on the infrastructure and officials of the SAIS Cahuide that increased after 1987.
