Attack on Gorgor Police Post
PCP-Sendero Luminoso attack against the Gorgor Police Post in Cajatambo that caused the death of two policemen (Medina and Dávila) in 1987, as part of the escalation of Shining Path violence in the northern highlands of Lima.
In 1987, there was an attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the police post in the district of Gorgor, in the province of Cajatambo. The attack resulted in two fatalities, policemen Medina and Davila. This attack was part of the expansion of the operations of the PCP-SL's main force bases in the area, in direct relation to the expansion of its social base in those years. The attack represented an escalation in Shining Path violence in the highlands north of Lima, which until then had concentrated mainly on selective assassinations of local authorities and people considered "anti-social".
