PCP-SL organizes popular committees in Junín

Beginning in the second half of 1987, the PCP-SL organized popular committees in many communities in Junín, establishing territorial control through armed columns that moved between the highlands and the jungle. This expansion includes the Canipaco valley, the Ene river basin in Satipo, and communities in Alto and Bajo Tulumayo.

From the second half of 1987, the PCP-SL organized popular committees in the territory of many communities in Junín, settling in the Canipaco valley in mid 1988. By the end of 1987, the PCP-SL had armed columns that moved relatively freely from one zone to another in the highlands and jungle of Junín, a situation that allowed it to decree armed strikes more frequently in the zones where it had influence and exercised greater control. The PCP-SL began to gain greater presence in the central jungle, particularly in the Ene River basin, province of Satipo, and to a lesser extent in Oxapampa (Pasco) and Chanchamayo (Junín). The communities of Alto and Bajo Tulumayo are convulsed by the action of PCP-SL columns, as are the communities of San Juan de Jarpa and San José de Quero (Alto Cunas).
