Attack on San Rafael mine

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the San Rafael mine in Antauta, Puno, killing 3 engineers and stealing boxes of dynamite. The attack occurred in the context of the expansion of subversive violence in the southern Andes.

On December 15, 1986, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the San Rafael mine located in the district of Antauta, department of Puno. During the attack, the subversives murdered 3 engineers working in the mine. In addition to the murder of the workers, the attackers stole boxes of dynamite from the mining facilities. This attack was part of the PCP-SL's strategy of carrying out violent actions against productive facilities and eliminating professionals and technicians in the southern Andean region during the period of expanding violence.
