Municipal elections

Municipal elections held throughout Peru on November 9, 1986, in which the PAP won in Lima with 37.6% of the votes, followed by the IU with 34.8% and the PPC with 26.9%.

On November 9, municipal elections were held throughout the country. President Alan Garcia Perez described the IU as the 'second majority'. The official results in Lima were: Jorge del Castillo Gálvez (PAP) obtained 37.6%, Alfonso Barrantes Lingán (IU) obtained 34.8%, and Luis Bedoya Reyes (PPC) obtained 26.9%. However, the official proclamation of the elected authorities had to wait until January due to problems at the JNE in Lima and due to protests by two losing candidates. Jorge del Castillo Galvez was subsequently sworn in as the first Aprista mayor of Lima in January 1987.
