XII Meeting of the Latin American Economic System (SELA)

Meeting of the Latin American Economic System inaugurated by Alan García Pérez in October 1986, where the Peruvian president defended the Latin American political agreement and received solidarity in the face of the IMF's declaration of ineligibility.

Alan García Pérez inaugurated the XII Meeting of the Latin American Economic System (SELA) in October 1986. During the event, the Peruvian president affirmed that Latin America and the Caribbean should create an organization that "is not ashamed of political coordination. At this meeting, Peru received expressions of solidarity in response to the declaration of ineligibility made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in August of the same year. The event took place in a context of international economic tension for the country, related to Alan Garcia's policy of limiting foreign debt payments to 10% of export revenues.
