Two men executed in Paraiso

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso publicly executed two men accused of being thieves in the hamlet of Paraíso, bringing together the local population and surrounding sectors. This act was part of the process of imposing Shining Path authority in Alto Huallaga.

On August 26, 1986, members of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso gathered the population of the hamlet of Paraíso and several of the surrounding sectors to publicly execute two unknown men. According to the Shining Path, these men were thieves and therefore deserved to die. This event was part of the PCP-SL's process of consolidating territorial control in Alto Huallaga, where the subversive group was beginning to impose its authority and popular justice system in rural areas dedicated to coca cultivation. Paraíso was at that time a town that had undergone an accelerated transformation due to drug trafficking, becoming a bustling center that attracted people from various parts of the country and abroad.
