On July 7, 1986, the first confrontation between the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and the army took place in the department of Apurimac, specifically in Soccos, Aymaraes province. This event marked an important milestone in the escalation of the internal armed conflict in the Apurimac region. Four days later, on July 11, the PCP-SL carried out its first attack on a police post in Chucapuente, also in the province of Aymaraes.
