On July 6, 1986, a group of Shining Path members of the PCP-SL assassinated the wife of the lieutenant governor of the community of Sacsamarca, district of Huancavelica. This assassination occurred during a period of relative withdrawal of violence in the province of Huancavelica, between 1985 and 1988, when subversive actions had significantly decreased. The attack was part of the PCP-SL strategy of eliminating local authorities and their families as a form of intimidation and territorial control. This type of selective assassination against relatives of authorities was a common tactic of the PCP-SL to punish and discourage collaboration with the State.
