Murders in Layo

On June 28, 1986, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated a municipal councilman and a local leader in Layo, province of Canas, Cuzco, as part of its strategy of selective annihilation of authorities.

On June 28, 1986, in the district of Layo, province of Canas, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out selective assassinations against local authorities. A municipal councilman and a local leader were assassinated as part of the Shining Path's strategy of eliminating authorities and state representatives in the high provinces of Cuzco. This event was part of the period of expansion of Shining Path violence in the region, when the PCP-SL intensified its actions against local authorities and police posts.
