Murder of councilman and leader in Layo

On June 28, 1986, a councilman and a leader were assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in Layo, Canas province, Cuzco, as part of the campaign to eliminate local authorities in the highland provinces.

On June 28, 1986, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated a councilman and a leader in Layo, province of Canas, department of Cuzco. This event was part of the period of expansion of violence in the southern Andes, when the Shining Path intensified its actions against local authorities and leaders in the high provinces of Cuzco. The attack was part of the Shining Path's strategy of eliminating state representatives and local leaders in rural areas.
