Mutiny at El Frontón Prison
Mutiny in El Frontón prison with subsequent military control and denial of Habeas Corpus.
On June 18, 1986, there was a riot at San Juan Bautista prison, known as El Frontón, where Víctor Neira Alegría, Edgar Zenteno Escobar and William Zenteno Escobar were being held as defendants for terrorism. As a result of the riot, the Government by Supreme Decree No. 006-86 JUS delegated to the Joint Command of the Armed Forces the control of the prisons, being included in the so-called Restricted Military Zones. The Habeas Corpus actions filed were declared inadmissible in all instances.
