On June 3, 1986, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso burned the SAIS Union headquarters in Azángaro and distributed the cattle among the population. This attack was part of a systematic campaign by the PCP-SL against the associative companies created by the agrarian reform, which they considered an expression of a semi-feudal society that should be demolished. Three days later, on June 6, they dynamited the Civil Guard post in San Anton, where two hikers died and an officer was wounded. This action took place in 1986, which registered the highest number of attacks and terrorist acts in the whole cycle of violence in Puno.
