Assassination of Admiral Carlos Ponce Canessa
PCP-SL assassinated Rear Admiral Carlos Ponce Canessa in an attack with firearms and explosives in Magdalena, Lima.
Members of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated Rear Admiral Carlos Ponce Canessa as he was leaving his home in Jr. Jiménez Pacheco No. 157. The hikers, made up of three men and two women from the special detachment, had been following the victim closely. They shot him with a machine gun and threw two explosive charges that destroyed the vehicle. The Rear Admiral had a penetrating gunshot wound to the head. This was one of the most shocking selective assassinations of 1986.
