Bombs at FUCAM's premises

The PCP-SL threw three bombs at the premises of the FUCAM in Azángaro in retaliation for the refusal of its leaders to join the people's war, in the context of the competition to lead the peasant movement for land.

In the context of the struggle for land since December 1985, there was a sharp competition for the leadership of the peasant movement between the PCP-SL and the pro-peasant communal front. Faced with the refusal of the leaders of the United Federation of Peasants of Azángaro and Melgar (FUCAM) to join the people's war, the PCP-SL threw three bombs at the FUCAM premises. This attack occurred after the restructuring decree of March 1986, when PCP-SL raids against the agricultural companies in Azángaro began to be heard. The attack was part of the Shining Path's strategy of trying to direct the peasant mobilizations for land through violent methods.
