In February 1986, the city of Monzon was taken by the PCP-SL. During the raid, an assembly was held to rally the population. The subversives destroyed the belongings and documents of the Municipality, which from then on was run only by its workers. This seizure took place in the context of a particularly violent presence of the PCP-SL in the Monzon valley, where the subversive organization had appeared since 1984 and confronted sectors that disagreed with its rule.
