Resignation of Peace Council members

The five members of the Peace Council, created in October 1985, resigned on January 23, 1986 due to problems in the exercise of their duties. Among the resigning members were Monsignor Augusto Beuzeville Ferro, Fernando Cabieses Molina, César Rodríguez Rabanal, Alberto Giesecke Matto and Diego García Sayán Larrabure.

The members of the Peace Council offered their resignation due to the problems they have encountered in the performance of their duties. The Council had been created in October of the previous year. The commissioners who resigned were Monsignor Augusto Beuzeville Ferro (president), Fernando Cabieses Molina, César Rodríguez Rabanal, Alberto Giesecke Matto and Diego García Sayán Larrabure. The commissioners indicated that they accepted the task because they were convinced that the creation of a space for action and reflection constituted a significant advance in the achievement of peace and the full exercise of human rights.
