Attack SAIS San José and Illari

Attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the SAIS San José and Illari in Puno, resulting in the death of 5 people. This attack was part of the Shining Path offensive against the associative companies created by the Agrarian Reform.

On January 10, 1986, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an attack against the Agricultural Societies of Social Interest (SAIS) San José and Illari in the department of Puno. Five people were killed in this attack. This attack was part of a wider offensive by the PCP-SL in Puno that continued during May 1986, including the burning of farms belonging to these same SAIS. The SAIS were associative enterprises created by the 1969 Agrarian Reform and had become the target of attacks by both the PCP-SL and the peasant mobilizations seeking democratic land restructuring.
