PCP-SL raid in Agua Blanca
On January 1, 1986, sixty PCP-SL subversives attacked the village of Agua Blanca in Monzon, killing 16 people in a popular trial, including the leader of the Self-Defense Committee Andres Cornelio Castañeda, who was tortured, brutally murdered and publicly beheaded.
On January 1, 1986, a group of sixty PCP-SL subversives raided the village of Agua Blanca, where a Self-Defense Committee had been organized under the leadership of peasant Andrés Cornelio Castañeda. In a popular trial, Castañeda was killed along with 15 other people. The peasant leader was tortured and brutally murdered, and his body was decapitated in full view of the people. This action took place in the context of the violent presence of the PCP-SL in the Monzon Valley, where the subversive organization attacked sectors that disagreed with its rule.
