Killing of crying babies to avoid military detection

Shining Path killed crying babies to avoid detection by the military in La Mar.

The Shining Path killed babies and small children whose cries could give away the location of their camps to the army. Shining Path commanders warned women to make sure their children did not cry, because the military could easily locate them. When a child cried a lot, generally because of hunger, the terrorists ordered them to be killed, saying 'because of them we could be discovered'. After killing them, they would throw the bodies into rivers or off cliffs. In one case, a woman tied her baby's hand and threw him into the Pampas River under hiker pressure.
