Detentions, torture and sexual violations in Ayacucho district
Series of arbitrary detentions, torture and systematic rape committed by members of the Peruvian Army against a 19-year-old girl at the Pampa Cangallo and Huamanga military bases between 1985-1986.
During the period 1986-1991, multiple cases of sexual violence and human rights violations were recorded in the District of Ayacucho. One informant was detained on three different occasions (1985, 1986 and a third time in 1986) and taken to the Pampa Cangallo and Huamanga Bases, where she was tortured and raped by a commander. The victim was accused of belonging to Sendero Luminoso and suffered beatings, forced stripping and repeated rapes. The commander sexually harassed her every time she left school, forcing her to go to the base under threat of beatings, and taunted her after each rape by calling her a 'rich terruca'.
