Drug flights from Tocache municipal airport
In 1986, drug flights from the municipal airport of Tocache intensified significantly, reaching four or five flights a day, following an agreement between the PCP-SL and drug traffickers that allowed the presence of Shining Path cadres in the signatures.
In 1986, after the first contact between the PCP-SL and the drug traffickers, drug flights began to leave the Tocache municipal airport "in force," with as many as four or five flights a day. This increase in aerial drug trafficking activity coincided with the PCP-SL's authorization to place three or four of its cadres in each of the drug trafficking firms. The PCP-SL subsequently suggested to the firm bosses that they invest in weapons of war brought from Colombia to support the Shining Path's work. By the first months of 1987, the PCP-SL already controlled the town of Tocache with hundreds of fighters concentrated in the area.
