Juan Argumedo García had been captured on January 23, 1983, 5 kilometers from Uchuraccay, at the point called Yuracyacu, and taken to the community for interrogation. Argumedo was killed along with the eight journalists on January 26, 1983, acting as the group's guide. A previous exhumation of his body had been carried out on February 11, 1983.
