Comrade Hernan's meeting at Rahui
Intimidating meeting at the Rahui school where comrade Hernán, a Shining Path leader, threatened the villagers with death if they did not resign their government posts and warned about the pervasive control of the party.
In 1986, a group of 5 hikers summoned all the inhabitants of Rahui to a meeting in the local school. During the meeting, comrade Hernán introduced himself as the person in charge and threatened the population, demanding that they all resign from the positions they held in service to the government. Hernán warned that if they did not accept, they would be killed like dogs and that whoever dared to denounce them would die for being 'black heads'. Comrade Hernán also stated that 'The party has a thousand eyes and ears', establishing a climate of terror and control over the local population.
