Lowest number of fatal victims of the internal armed conflict
In 1986, the lowest point of fatalities of the Peruvian internal armed conflict was recorded, after the decline experienced from 1984-1985. This was a period of relative calm before the upsurge of violence in 1987.
The year 1986 marked the lowest point in terms of the number of fatalities during the Peruvian internal armed conflict. This drop in the intensity of the conflict came after the first peak of violence in 1984, which had been the moment of greatest initial intensity. From 1987 onwards, a new upsurge in violence would begin, reaching another peak in 1989 and remaining at relatively high levels until 1992. This period of relative calm in 1986 represented a temporary pause before the expansion of the conflict to new regions of the country.
