In the late afternoon of December 23, 1985, a commando of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) occupied the Scala Gigante store located in the district of Breña, Lima. The MRTA members immobilized the store's guards and employees. Using the store's loudspeakers, they urged the large public present to loot, indicating that "Christmas is for everyone". This action was part of the MRTA campaign called "Fight against hunger".
