On December 22, 1985, militants of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the facilities of the SAIS (Sociedad Agraria de Interés Social) Túpac Amaru. During the subversive incursion, they burned seven vehicles and set fire to the SAIS facilities. This attack was part of a systematic campaign by the PCP-SL against the SAIS in the region, which had begun in March 1983. The destruction of the SAIS was part of the Shining Path strategy of attacking state agrarian and cooperative structures in the countryside.
