Confrontation in Totora

On December 6, 1985, the ronderos of Totora confronted the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. This confrontation occurred in the context of a series of Shining Path actions in the Vilcabamba area during November 1985, when the PCP-SL had restarted its actions by taking over several villages and recruiting youths between 10 and 18 years of age. The ronderos, organized in self-defense committees, responded to the Shining Path offensive in the region.
