Hikers raid in Huayao with multiple murders

PCP-SL raided Huayao killing approximately 30 peasants and burning houses.

On September 26, 1985, at 9:00 p.m., approximately 100 hikers raided Huayao. The villagers, members of the Civil Defense decided to confront them. The hikers looted and burned the villagers' houses. At 4:00 a.m. when they withdrew, Mariano Marquina Miguel was found seriously wounded with a spear in his stomach and one eye out, who died two days later. Manuela Vargas Bendezú was also found burned along with her house. In total approximately 30 people were killed, among them Alejandro Marquina, Santos Vargas, Mariano Lapa, Antonio Miguel, Manuel Yucra, Marinao Cárdenas, Mariano Miguel and Alberto Amiquero.
