Arrest of peasants in Umaro and Bellavista

The military detained several peasants from the communities of Umaro and Bellavista in Vilcashuamán, Ayacucho, surrounding the people who tried to flee.

On August 27, 1985, the military detained several peasants from the communities of Umaro and Bellavista, Vilcashuamán province, in Ayacucho. The military forces surrounded the population who tried to flee during the operation. This event occurred in the context of intensified military operations in the emergency zone of Ayacucho. The incident occurred just two weeks after the massacre of Accomarca on August 14, where military killed approximately 62 peasants.
