Massacre in Umaro and Bellavista

On August 27, 1985, a military patrol assassinated 59 peasants in the communities of Umaro and Bellavista, Vilcashuamán. This massacre occurred days after the Accomarca massacre, as part of military operations against alleged PCP-SL support bases.

On August 27, 1985, a military patrol raided the communities of Umaro and Bellavista, in Vilcashuamán, and killed 59 peasants. This massacre occurred a few days after the well-known massacre of Accomarca (August 14, 1985), where 69 peasants were killed. Both events were part of military operations aimed at dealing definitive blows to the PCP-SL support network in the area. Similar operations were carried out since the beginning of August in several localities including Huampalpa, Carhuanca, Pujas, Vilcashuamán, Vischongo and Cangallo.
