FUCAM promotes the disaffiliation of foundations

In August 1985, the United Federation of Peasants of Melgar (FUCAM) promoted the "disaffiliation of estates" to promote the bankruptcy of the associative companies of the Agrarian Reform. This strategy sought to benefit peasant farmers excluded from agrarian reform in the context of growing peasant mobilization in Puno.

In August 1985, the United Federation of Peasants of Melgar (FUCAM) decided to promote the 'disaffiliation of estates' in order to break the unity of the associative enterprises that had emerged from the Agrarian Reform. This strategy was part of the process of 'democratic restructuring' of the land that sought to benefit the communal peasants who had been excluded from the agrarian reform. The measure was framed in a context of growing peasant mobilization in the Puna highlands, where the associative companies (SAIS, ERPS, CAPs) had become the target of frustration of broad peasant sectors. This action took place on the eve of the 1985 general elections and was part of a process of democratization 'from below' led by leftist organizations.
