Murder of 15 villagers in Huarcatan

In August 1985, 15 villagers were murdered in the town of Huarcatan. This event occurred in the context of the intensification of the internal armed conflict in the Ayacucho region, during a period in which both the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and the forces of law and order and the peasant patrols were carrying out violent actions against the civilian population. The fact is recorded in the chronology of violent events in Zone II, which includes the provinces of Huamanga, Huanta and La Mar.
