Arrest of Esperanza Ruiz Soto

Woman detained by military in Huanta, blindfolded and taken to military base

On July 31, 1985, Esperanza Ruiz Soto was detained by military personnel in the Cinco Esquinas neighborhood of the city of Huanta. When she was arrested, she was carrying a tape recorder and a blanket. According to numerous witnesses, the members of the Army put her in a truck, tied her hands and blindfolded her, and then drove to the center of the city and later to the Castropampa Base.
