Statement by Vilcabamba authorities on PCP-SL raids
Authorities, heads of institutions and residents of Vilcabamba publicly declared that the PCP-SL had been entering the area for three years (since approximately 1982).
On May 13, 1985, authorities, heads of institutions and neighbors of Vilcabamba made a public statement about the presence of the PCP-SL in the area. In this declaration, they stated that for three years the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path had been making incursions in the district of Vilcabamba. This statement was made in a context of intensification of Shining Path actions in the Vilcabamba area, La Convención, which included the seizure of villages and confrontations with law enforcement and ronderos.
