In April 1985, a subversive detachment of approximately 20 people carrying various weapons entered the community of Maraypata in Churcampa. The residents of Maraypata had formed peasant patrols, which prompted the PCP-SL to attack them in an attempt to punish them for this organization. The residents of the Paccay community immediately came to the support of Maraypata. In the confrontation, a hail of stones thrown by the villagers killed four subversives, while the others were arrested and handed over to the military at the Churcampa base.
