Attack on Urcos police post

In April 1985 there was an attack on the Urcos police post, located in the department of Cusco. This attack was part of a series of violent actions by the Shining Path PCP in the Cusco region during that period. The attack on Urcos occurred in the context of an escalation of violence in the area, which had begun in January 1985 with the first assault on a police post in San Sebastian, near the city of Cusco, where two policemen were killed. These actions marked the beginning of the active presence of the Shining Path PCP in the department of Cusco.
