On March 20, 1985, members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) set fire to a Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Lima. This attack was part of a campaign of anti-electoral actions that the MRTA was developing during that period. Most of the attacks during this period were directed against party premises or political cadres, in the context of the general elections to be held in April 1985. The burning of the Kentucky local was part of the activities of the Second Central Committee of the MRTA, called Carlos Sanchez Neyra.
