This attack marked the beginning of the first phase of real violence in the Cuzco region, characterized by harassment and attacks on rural and urban police posts. The assault was part of the PCP-SL's strategy of directly attacking law enforcement in the department. This event was later replicated on April 19 in Urcos, Quispicanchi, against the Civil Guard detachment.
