Amnesty International denounces more than 1,000 disappeared persons

Amnesty International denounced that more than 1,000 people had disappeared in Peru's emergency zone, in addition to hundreds of murders and torture by law enforcement officials.

Amnesty International (AI) filed a formal complaint about the situation of forced disappearances in Peru. The international human rights organization stated that more than a thousand people had disappeared in the emergency zone. In addition, they denounced that hundreds of people were killed and tortured by the forces of law and order in the emergency zones. This denunciation took place in a context of escalating political violence and human rights violations during the internal armed conflict.
