Rape of elderly women in Vilca
Military personnel from the Vilca Base raped five elderly women on January 15, 1985, after taking them away on the pretext of making chicharron in the plaza. The victims were gathered together drinking and chacchando coca when they were attacked.
In January 1985, soldiers from the Vilca Base raped five elderly women who were gathered together having a drink and chacchando coca. The soldiers arrived saying they were going to make chicharrón in the plaza and took the old women away. Two of them managed to return, but the younger ones were held in the plaza where three soldiers raped them. A surviving grandmother tearfully recounted what happened the day after the incident. This case is part of a systematic pattern of rapes committed by members of the Manta and Vilca military bases since their installation in 1984 and 1985 respectively.
