Raking in Carmen Alto

Military raids carried out by members of the Quicapata Barracks in Carmen Alto between 1985 and 1989, during which neighborhoods were cordoned off and women were raped.

Between 1985 and 1989, Peruvian Army troops from the Quicapata Barracks conducted early morning raids in the neighborhoods of the Carmen Alto district. During these operations, the military cordoned off the surrounding neighborhoods and residents were not allowed to enter or leave the area even though their homes were located there. Testimonies report that during these raids, sexual violations were committed against women in the area. Women were separated from men during these military operations.
