Law enforcement casualties in the internal armed conflict
In 1985, 31 members of the Peruvian security forces (15 from the Armed Forces and 16 from the Police Forces) were killed in the fight against armed subversion. These casualties represented 1.9% of the total number of law enforcement fatalities during the internal armed conflict.
During 1985, Peruvian law enforcement agencies suffered 31 fatal casualties in the fight against armed subversion, according to information provided by the armed forces and the Ministry of the Interior to the CVR. Of these casualties, 15 corresponded to the Armed Forces and 16 to the Police Forces. These deaths represented 1.9% of the total number of law enforcement casualties during the entire internal armed conflict (1980-2000). The casualties occurred mainly in acts of service in emergency zones or in combat against subversive elements of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and MRTA.
