Decrease in the intensity of the internal armed conflict

Between 1985 and 1986 there was a notable decrease in the intensity of Peru's internal armed conflict, with 1986 being the year with the lowest number of fatalities. This period of relative calm preceded a new escalation of violence beginning in 1987.

During 1985 and 1986 there was a period of significant decline in the intensity of the internal armed conflict in Peru. This period represented the lowest point in terms of the number of fatalities, with 1986 being the year with the lowest number of reported deaths and disappearances. This decrease occurred after the peak of violence in 1984, which was the most intense year of the conflict with 19% of the total number of victims. From 1987 onwards, a new upsurge in violence would begin, reaching another peak in 1989.
